Project Spotlight: Lake House Escape

Project Spotlight: Lake House Escape

Step inside our Lake House Retreat project. A personality-packed home situated on Lake Erie that we worked to completely restore and refresh to show off the best of its historical midcentury modern design. This project was years in the making for us… we drew up the design concept in 2019 and completed a few rooms, and now four years later it is finally completed and functions as a retreat house for our client to host and relax with family. Once you spot the lake views and walk-in wine room in the video below, you’ll see why this house is the most perfect weekend escape!

The biggest transformation in the home was definitely the mudroom and laundry room! We completely refinished this space to make it more functional and added features like skylights to bring in more natural light. The cabinetry is all custom designed for the space, including a cabinet to hide a stacked washer & dryer, and of course all of the beautiful deep red cabinetry in the wine room. This area of the home also holds one of our personal favorite details… the vintage hand light!

Our client’s main goal for the space was to retain as much of the home’s original features as possible, so our focus and challenge was on how to restore as much as possible to respect the home’s history all while making sure it felt fresh and livable for today. Some features we kept and restored were the stainless steel countertops, all of the hardware (a good polish can do wonders!), the bathroom tiles, and the kitchen cabinetry. For any added elements, we made sure that they were true to the time period and felt like they could have been original to the house – like the stunning terrazzo floors we added throughout!

We had a fun time sourcing vintage furniture and accents to decorate the rooms and finish them off in style! What do you think, could you see yourself spending a sunny weekend by the lake here with your family?
