Timeless Design for Cleveland Homes

Timeless Design for Cleveland Homes

For the past 20 years, our design team has perfected the art of creating timeless design for Cleveland homes and beyond. Whether in a modern house or a historic property, our clients come to us because they recognize the value of creating spaces that they will enjoy for years to come. Renovating and furnishing a home is a significant investment, and we believe it’s essential to design a space that stands the test of time. While our approach for every home is different, we do have some proven design details – such as materials and styles – that we know will hold up and will feel fresh a decade (or decades!) from now. Read on below to see how to make your home timeless.

Embrace the English Roll Arm Sofa

Let’s begin with one of the most used pieces in the home: the living room sofa. There are endless styles to choose from, but we recommend avoiding anything too trendy. The English Roll Arm sofa, which dates back to 19th-century Britain, remains just as beautiful today as it did then. Its soft features and overstuffed cushions make it both elegant and comfortable, making it a perfect choice for any living room. By investing in a well-made sofa, you can have the fabric reupholstered and the cushions restuffed over the years, rather than having having to purchase an entirely new piece.

Choosing natural materials, such as hardwood floors or stone countertops, is always a great decision. These durable materials are designed to last and can be repaired and maintained in nearly any circumstance. One stone that is guaranteed to look timeless is white marble. Whether used for flooring, countertops, or backsplashes, it fits beautifully in any setting and complements any style of home.

As designers, we see firsthand the immediate impact wallpaper can have on a room. When people think of wallpaper, they often can only envision colorful patterns or outdated designs from the past. However, the styles and materials available today are endless, and one option that can instantly elevate your space by adding warmth and texture is grasscloth. For a timeless look, we often rely on neutral grasscloth wallpapers, such as the one shown in this dining room design. While the homeowners may change their furniture or paint colors over time, this tan grasscloth wallpaper can remain in place and endure for decades to come.

We love the simple and nostalgic style of schoolhouse lighting. These fixtures provide a warm and inviting glow, are easy to maintain, and come in various finishes and hanging lengths, making them suitable for different areas in the home. In our design studio on the east side of Cleveland, we have two schoolhouse fixtures in the kitchen. Most schoolhouse lights have a straightforward design, making them a natural fit for almost any home style!

Classic & Luxury Cabinetry: Inset

Anyone who has purchased an older home knows that the kitchen is often the first room that feels outdated. It is also typically the most expensive space to renovate. So, when it comes time to invest in a kitchen renovation, lean on your interior designer to help you make choices that will give the space a timeless feel. When it comes to cabinetry, we recommend opting for inset-style. This means that the cabinet doors are set within the frame rather than over it. This design creates a seamless appearance that feels both custom-made and elevated. Over time you may feel a need to change our hardware or the cabinet paint color/ stain, but the foundation inset-style of cabinetry will never go out of style!
